6 Approaches to Speech Titles that Sizzle… and Sell!

I shared six ways to write presentation titles that capture attention in this week’s newsletter, including:

  1. Communicate a distinct benefit/solution.
  2. Spark curiosity.
  3. Establish credibility.
  4. Demonstrate your (or your presentation’s) uniqueness.
  5. Appeal to the client’s needs/challenges.
  6. Create a sense of urgency or action.

(If you’d like to see some sample applications of those six approaches, you can read this week’s newsletter here.)

Do you agree or disagree with these six? What’s a 7th way that you would add to the mix? Any other titling tips for your fellow speakers? Discuss! 🙂

Shawn-
I LOVE titles too. Well, clever ones, that is! I was wondering if you would critique 3 of mine. Just your first impression.
1. Try Laughter…Just for the Health of It! (most requested)
2. My Life’s Out of Balance…and It’s Worse Than My Checkbook!
3. If Stress is Garbage, I’ve ‘Bin’ There, Recycled That!
4. Life in the Laugh Lane (Steering your way through Life’s Twists & Turns with Laughter)

Thanks Shawn!

Bobbe,

Thanks for reading! You’ve got some good titles here. I like #2 and #4 best. In terms of a critique, I’ll just focus on #1 here: See if you can take a different approach, only because the “laughter is good for your health” angle is pretty common. This would be a good title for someone who is considering this idea for the first time, but it doesn’t do anything to set you apart from other speakers who address the same topic. Is there any way you could incorporate something into the title that would provide a glimpse of how your approach to this topic might be unique? That’s my first thought. Hope it helps!

Thanks again for reading and commenting.

Best,
Shawn
